Rafael Silva misses weight for title fight against Joe Warren

When Eduardo Dantas was forced out of his scheduled title defense against Joe Warren tonight at Bellator 118 due to a head injury, Rafael Silva stepped in on short notice with a chance to become the interim Bellator Bantamweight champion.

Unfortunately, Silva was unable to make the 135 pound limit yesterday at the weigh-ins, thus losing his shot at the title.

Joe Warren, the consummate professional, made weight for the title bout and still has a shot to become Bellator’s first ever fighter to hold titles in two different weight classes.

If Silva defeats Warren tonight, Eduardo Dantas will remain the sole Bantamweight champion. If Warren defeats Silva, he will become the interim Bantamweight champion setting up a monumental unification bout with Dantas in the near future.

Obviously this is not the fight that Bellator was hoping for, but punishment for Silva is unlikely considering he took the fight on short notice. Regardless an interim title fight where only one competitor is eligible to become the champion is not a great look for Bellator.
