If the report is true, it would be a crushing blow to a FC Dallas and it’s screaming hot start. Diaz has been a bright spot for a Dallas team which started the 2014 season much better than the experts predicted. The team has rocketed to 2nd place in MLS behind only the Seattle Sounders at 5-2-1. Diaz has been a large part of the success with 3 goals and 2 assists through 8 games. Diaz was added as a Designated Player (DP) in 2013 and was Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for March this year.
Dallas coach Oscar Pareja was likely aware of the situation and already have been looking to replace him when he spoke with the Dallas Morning News on Thursday saying;
With Danny Garcia, it might be a great moment for him to capitalize on the opportunity that the game presents if it is the case, yes.
Whatever the case the team will need to find an answer and quickly. The team begins a brutal month of May playing 7 games in 27 games including 4 games on the road and games against top Western conference opponents, LA Galazy, Real Salt Lake, and Seattle Sounders. Whoever ultimately replaces Diaz, the workload will be spread out. Along with the 3 goals by Diaz, three other players have 3 goals to their names including Michel Pereira, Blaz Perez, and Je-Vaughn Watson.
The team might have been holding back on releasing the news of Diaz’s season ending injury to give the team some more time to determine who his replacement might be. If Dallas were to go out and sign a new addition, they have until May 12th, when the early season transfer window closes.
