After an entire day of waiting, the most exciting two minutes in all of sports has finally been completed with the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby; and in the end it was California Chrome who took away the ultimate prize.

Things got off to a rather slower than usual start in this one, but down the stretch California Chrome kicked it into an entirely new gear, leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind that he would easily run away with the victory.

Now, with the first one out of the way, we can now start the official watch for California Chrome and the chase for the Triple Crown. With just two more races to go, we’ll see if we finally get the first horse since Affirmed back in the late 70s to capture one of the more elusive prizes, not just in horse racing, but in all of sports.

That journey will continue on in two weeks with the running of the Preakness Stakes, and should he claim victory there, then it will be off to the Belmont Stakes with all eyes watching.
