It appears that Boston Red Sox left-handed starting pitcher Jon Lester has finally got his groove back.
So far this season, things have been looking very promising for Lester over his first six starts. He’s had a couple bumps in the road, but there’s plenty of regular season left to play. Now today he made his seventh start of the season as the Red Sox hosted the 2013 American League West Champion Oakland Athletics.
Oakland has been hitting opposing pitchers fairly well this season and were looking to do the same this afternoon against Lester. The 30 year old lefty was lights out.
Through eight innings of work, Lester only gave up one hit while walking two and striking out a career high 15 batters. Jon Lester became the first Red Sox pitcher to strikeout 15 batters this year and the first to do so since Pedro Martinez back in 2001.
His strikeout rate has dropped over the last couple of years but he’s already struck out 58 over 48 and two-third innings this season.
Great outing and win today by Lester. You can watch highlights from today’s start by Lester by clicking here.
