The Virginia Tech Hokies have gotten off to a slow start in recruiting for the class of 2015.
They’ve had commitments from a pair of 3-star cornerbacks, Mook Reynolds of Northern Guilford (Greensboro, NC) and DuWayne Johnson of Woodson H.D. (Washington, DC). Just last week, 3-star defensive end Harry Lewis of Phoebus (Hampton, VA) gave his pledge to the Hokies.
On Saturday, 3-star defensive tackle Eric Whitehead joined Lewis along the future of the Hokies’ defensive line when he gave his pledge to head coach Frank Beamer and his staff.
“I’m a Hokie,” Whitehead told Steve Wiltfong of 24/7 Sports.
The 6’1, 300-pound Whitehead is from Indianapolis, Indiana and attends Lawrence Central High School.
He took an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech back in March, but kept his options open, taking a look at the Purdue Boilermakers and Indiana Hoosiers, among others, since.
After careful consideration, he chose the Hokies.
Whitehead is ranked as the country’s 58th-best defensive tackle prospect, the 13th-best overall prospect in the state of Indiana and the 953rd-best overall prospect int he class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
