The 2014 Colorado Rockies are off to a surprisingly positive start, but for at least the next two weeks, they will be forced to continue without the benefit of one of their best power hitters, as catcher Wilin Rosario was placed on the disabled list on Sunday.
Rockies activate RHP Jhoulys Chacin from DL. Will start today’s game. In addition, place C Wilin Rosario on DL.

With the Rockies at 19-14, it may be a stretch to say that Rosario going down would be a crushing blow, but it’s a significant loss. The power-hitting backstop blasted 21 home runs and slugged .486 last season, and despite a slow start to this year (.274 OBP), the youngster is still very much in Colorado’s future plans.
The reason that Rosario has been placed on the DL is due to a viral infection, but there are various ailments associated with him at this stage, and with catchers being under significant stress regularly, this is the right move. Colorado will attempt to fill his spot until he returns, but hopefully, it will be a short stint.
