The San Francisco Giants have placed right-handed starting pitcher Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list according to CSN Bay Area.
Cain was scratched from his last start on Tuesday because of a cut finger. Cain cut his right index finger on a kitchen knife while making himself a sandwich before the game. It’s a bizarre way for you to be scratched from a start, but things like this happen every once in awhile.
With Cain unable to pick up his next start, right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit will get the start on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This will give him at least one more shot in the starting rotation.
Not official but obvious Petit gets the ball in Cain’s spot tomorrow at Pittsburgh.

San Francisco recalled right-hander Jake Dunning from Triple-A Fresno as a corresponding move. Petit is expected to fill in for Cain for as long as he’s out, which won’t be more than 15 days.
