Veteran designated hitter and first baseman Jason Giambi wanted to return to the Cleveland Indians after the 2013 regular season came to an end.

The Indians appeared to be on the fence about the situation but eventually gave Giambi what he wanted and brought him back. Now with Giambi back on the big league club, he is currently making another stint on the disabled list. The Indians placed Giambi on the 15-day disabled list, a move retroactive to May 4 due to a right calf straight.

Giambi started off the season on the disabled list with a rib injury and was activated by the Indians halfway through April. He went 0-10 with two strikeouts in only four games this year. This move will clear room for recently extended Yam Gomes.

The 26 year old catcher is currently hitting .261/.298/.443 with three home runs, 10 RBI’s and five doubles off 23 hits. I noted before that Gomes received a contract extension after Carlos Santana was permanently moved to third base. Hopefully they don’t end up designating Giambi for assignment.
