Hopefully, your fantasy baseball week is off to a running start, but if you’re already hitting the wire for starting pitching pickups, don’t worry there are some nice options for Tuesday. Whether you’re looking to rebound from a rough start or just upgrade for a big week, you’ve come to the right place to find the best of Tuesday’s available starters.
Whatever reason brings you to the wire for a starting pitcher, check my daily pitcher pickups when you want to know who is going to take the mound that can offer you a boost(archive here where you can also set a bookmark for the daily updates). To see how my recent selections have fared, check the chart on the final slide of the post. All of my choices are available in at least half of ESPN leagues, and their ownership percentage is included in parentheses. For each selection, I also include my perspective of the risk and reward for the scheduled start on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest risk and the highest reward.
Here are my five top options for Tuesday:
Henderson Alvarez-Miami Marlins (2.2%)
Alvarez isn’t coming off a great start his last time out allowing four runs in six innings to the Braves, but he’s in a better matchup as he and the Fish host the New York Mets. Alvarez has a solid outing agains New York in Citi Field two starts ago holding them to two runs in six innings but ultimately earning a no-decision.
Alvarez has started the season pretty strong with a 3.28 ERA, but his 1.46 WHIP and a low strikeout rate show he could be in for some regression as the season goes on. He’s still a good pickup for this one start against the Mets although his long-term outlook isn’t one that would make him holdable going forward.
