On Saturday night, the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Floyd Mayweather Jr., entered the cage to take on heavy-handed Argentinian contender Marcos Maidana. Many believed that Maidana’s aggressive style and power would make for an intriguing match up, and it did give us one of the better Mayweather fights in recent memory.
While Maidana did throw punches at a high volume and keep the pressure on Mayweather, he was unable to land many shots thanks to Mayweather’s clear speed advantage.
Mayweather ducked and dodged nearly every big shot from Maidana and went on to win via majority decision. To show just how impressive Mayweather’s defense was on Saturday night, he was able to land more punches than Maidana despite Maidana throwing more than double the amount of punches that Mayweather tossed.
It was surprising to see the scorecard even on one of the judge’s cards.
