Kevin Durant is expected to be named as the NBA MVP this week and the Oklahoma City Thunder small forward is getting a ringing endorsement from four-time MVP LeBron James of the Miami Heat.

“Much respect to him and he deserves it,” James said. “He had a big-time MVP season.”

Durant led the NBA in scoring with a career-high 32 points per game and added 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game as he guided the Thunder to the second-best record in the Western Conference.

Durant and the Thunder advanced to the second round of the playoffs after a Game 7 win over the Memphis Grizzlies and now face the Los Angeles Clippers who defeated the Golden State Warriors in a seven game series.

James won the MVP in each of the past two seasons and has won all four of his awards in the last five seasons with Chicago Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose interrupting his reign on the award.

Perhaps we’ll see a James-Durant matchup in the NBA Finals where they can vie for Finals MVP which is the award the Durant would really like to win the most.
