Report: Oregon Ducks point guard Dominic Artis will transfer

After a 24-win season and a solid run in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, it appears as if the backcourt for Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks will be missing a key piece for next season, as point guard Dominic Artis will reportedly transfer from the school.

Jeff Goodman of ESPN reports that Artis will leave the program after his sophomore season, and while it is unknown where he will land, he will be forced to sit out a season if he stays in Division 1 for the remainder of his eligibility. Artis was much more impactful as a freshman (8.5 points, 3.2 assists per game) than he was as a sophomore, but that reportedly has more to do with some off-court transgressions (he was suspended for 9 games last season) than his on-court play.

It will be interesting to see where a guy like Artis lands, especially given the late hour of this announcement. Schools like Kansas who were in need of point guards have already found their guys for this particular transfer “class”, but a player like Artis will certainly have multiple suitors. Stay tuned.
