Shawn Marion says it won’t take much to keep him with Mavericks
By Mike Dyce
Dallas Mavericks defensive guru Shawn Marion is headed towards free agency and could be headed out of town. If the Mavericks want to keep Marion around, it won’t take much according to him. He went on to say that he loved the organization and planned on making Dallas his home.
“It’s like a family here,” Marion said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “I’m going to weigh my options out and see what it’s going to take for me to get another championship ring. I’d love to add to the ring I have. I’m going to retire here regardless. I’m going to be a Dallas local here in the coming years. I’m going to make this my home.”
Marion added: “It’s not about money right now. I’ve made a lot of money in my career. I’ve been truly blessed. I take none of this for granted.
“We’re going to see what’s out there and what’s available. I’m just going to weigh it out. I’m going to put it in God’s hands.”
That is good news for the Mavericks, and if Marion is willing to take a lesser deal that could give the Mavericks the flexibility to pursue big free agents and pursue that other championship ring.
