There have been numerous reports about the Dallas Cowboys showing interest in Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel, but the closer we get to the draft the more it appears the interest has been a major smokescreen.

It is highly unlikely that the Cowboys would have a chance to land Manziel at the No. 15 pick, but Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports the team is hoping Johnny Manziel will slide to them at their pick in the middle of the round in hopes of generating trade interest with their pick.

“(The Cowboys) would love to be on the clock with Johnny Manziel sitting there, but not to take him. Not to take him,” Rapoport said, via NFL.com. “Just so they would have some ammunition for a potential trade for some team wanting to come up and grab Johnny Manziel.”

It will be interesting to see what happens on draft day if Manziel is on the board when Dallas is on the clock, but if you are a Cowboys fan hoping to see Manziel suit up with the star on his helmet we wouldn’t recommend holding your breath.
