Arizona Diamondbacks place J.J. Putz on disabled list with forearm tightness

Not much has gone right for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season. Now they will be without one of the bigger names in the back of their bullpen for a while.

Nick Piecoro reports that the Diamondbacks placed Putz on the disabled list with right forearm tightness this week:

Gibson said Putz had been dealing with the issue in recent outings and hadn’t been improving. In his most recent outing, on Saturday against the San Diego Padres, Putz gave up two runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.”

Waning effectiveness on its own might not be enough to determine Putz’s status, as he has been up and down the last couple seasons. But given the fact that Putz has been experiencing discomfort for some time, the Diamondbacks are wise to try and get out in front of this one.

Kirk Gibson had the following to say about the situation:

His last outing in San Diego, it was bothering him more than it had been…It kind of trended the wrong way. We waited today to see how he was. He came in and it wasn’t very good, so we’re going to DL him.”

Putz has posted a 5.40 ERA so far in 13 appearances in 2014.
