Giants’ Matt Cain injured while cutting sandwich

The San Francisco Giants placed Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 25th, citing a finger cut from a kitchen knife as the problem.

That in itself is strange, but it’s what Cain told the San Francisco Gate about what he was doing with the kitchen knife that raises some eyebrows.

Cain wants it known that he had finished the ham-and-cheese sandwich and grabbed the knife so he could cut it.

“I went to cut it, to make it fancy in triangles,” he said. When he dropped the knife he tried to catch it, and now he is on the DL for the second time in his career.

The only other time Cain was on the DL was last year in August, when he was hit by a line drive hit back at him. Undoubtedly, this will be a long-standing joke for the rest of the season.

Cain is expected to make his next start on Saturday.
