UFC removed Nate Diaz from rankings for turning down fights

Earlier today, FanSided reported that UFC veteran and former Lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz had been removed from the official UFC rankings.

The MMA community speculated as to why Diaz was removed, but there was no official word from the UFC until now. According to a report by ESPN, Nate Diaz was removed from the rankings due to his recent stretch of turning down fights:

Nate Diaz has been removed due to inactivity related to his refusal to accept bouts. There is no timetable for if and when he returns. Thus, he’s been removed from the rankings.

Diaz has been vocal about his displeasure with his current UFC contract, which has led to him turning down a bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

With the UFC and Diaz locked in a stalemate when it comes to his contract, it may be quite a while before we see either Diaz brother back inside the Octagon.
