The Chicago Bears have holes on the defensive side of the ball, both up front and on the back end in the secondary.

When it comes to the best way for them to address those holes with the no. 14 pick in the draft, there is a growing sense that the Bears will select a safety: either Calvin Pryor or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, depending on how things shake out with the picks in front of them.

John Mullin of CSN Chicago wonders if Pryor is the better fit of the two players:

"A question is whether the Bears are looking for an enforcer in the deep middle or more of a cover guy? Here’s how one personnel vet reasoned: If the raw athleticism and instincts are there, you can teach cover skills and coverage. But you can’t teach someone who hasn’t been a hitter in college to suddenly become one at the highest level of his sport.Translation: Pryor is the more physical of the two and can play both free and strong safety. Unless the Bears arrive at a final grade significantly higher on Clinton-Dix than Pryor, Pryor is the better fit. And Pryor has emerged as the most common pick by the Bears.”"

As far as style of play is concerned, Pryor is a better fit for what the Bears will do. They will be left on Thursday to see how much commotion unfolds in front of them and if their guy is still there when they select in the middle of the first round.
