The Cleveland Browns consider their situation with the fourth-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft to be very fluid, and yes, that means that they still consider Johnny Manziel to be an option in that spot.
Speaking to Lindsay Jones of USA Today, Browns head coach Mike Pettine said that nothing has been decided yet. Jones also asked about Manziel, reporting the following about the team’s mindset with the fourth-overall pick:
Though Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported on Tuesday the Browns would not use the No. 4 pick on Manziel, Pettine told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday that, ‘it is very fluid.’
‘He’ll be in the discussion at four,’ Pettine said. ‘We met on it again this morning. I think it is very fluid.’
With all the smoke screens and misdirections dispatched by executives and coaches alike this time of year, you take comments like these for what they are. Glazer’s report still might hold true, but the Browns do not want anyone to know that is the case for sure until Goodell has announced their selection in that spot on Thursday night.
Gamesmanship, fibs, and lies. Ahhhh. No, it’s not your family getting together for a holiday. It must be NFL Draft time!
