With the NFL Draft just a day away, teams and scouts are going into lockdown mode to make sure they know everything they can about potential draft picks they’ll be selecting. Thanks to the Aaron Hernandez’s and Aldon Smith’s of the world, the vetting process for players is under intense scrutiny which by default has put players under even more intense scrutiny.

Kony Ealy has had some questions about him as we approach the draft and many see him as a possible first round pick. But a few NFL scouts have absolutely destroyed the Missouri defensive lineman, calling him everything from a con man to a pain.

Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

"“Whenever something doesn’t work he just shuts her down. He’s just kind of out of control. He gets washed out, then he’ll make a big-time play.” … “He thinks he’s already an Aldon Smith-type player,” a third scout said. “Classic con man. I don’t trust this kid. He will be just a big pain in the (expletive). He’s one of those ‘let somebody else draft him’ guys.” … “He’s a mess. Somebody’s going to draft him because they need a defensive end and overdraft him.”"

This isn’t what you’d define as a glowing review of someone’s character, and it’s clear that Ealy isn’t high on everyone’s board. But the NFL has shown that certain teams will take risks on players they think they can straighten out and Ealy appears to be one of those guys.

We’re also in the character assassination phase of the draft, which means we can’t believe everything we hear about prospects and their character.
