It took 19 games, but the Astros’ most highly-touted prospect finally hit his first bomb of the season.
In the top of the fifth inning against Drew Smyly of Detroit on Thursday afternoon, George Springer lined a rocket over the 365 mark in right field. It was a solo shot that cut the Tigers’ lead in half to 2-1. The shot brought his average up to .231 and gives him 7 RBI on the season. Springer had already made a diving catch in the game to add to the highlight reel.
