Chris Sale to start rehab assignment next week

The Chicago White Sox are an upstart team thus far in 2014. Their early success is thanks to their explosive offense. If they want to sustain this start and contend in the AL Central, however, they will likely need their ace back in their starting rotation.

Chris Sale, working his way back from an arm injury, looks like he will be able to embark on a rehab assignment next week. Per Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago:

A day after he threw for a second time, manager Robin Ventura said Thursday the White Sox ace has another bullpen session scheduled on Saturday.

Sale, who is on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 18 with a left flexor muscle strain, has continued to feel good as he rehabs, Ventura said. If that continues the White Sox could have a plan in place within the next few days, one would likely include at least two rehab starts in the minors.”

As we have noted before, the White Sox will surely monitor each and every step of his rehab closely. If there is any setbacks on those rehab appearances they will take a step back. When it comes to an arm injury like a strained flexor tendon, especially for a guy whose delivery has always worried people, you cannot be too careful.
