The Toronto Blue Jays have not had the desired results as a team in recent seasons. They have enjoyed the benefits of a slugging lineup, however, and the emergence of Edwin Encarnacion has been a big reason why.
Encarnacion reached a milestone on Thursday night, sending this solo shot over the center field wall for this 200th career home run.
This moment embodies so many of Encarnacion’s highlights at the plate: A.J. Burnett left a pitch up and Encarnacion belted it out of the Rogers Centre. Encarnacion has sputtered a bit to start 2014, batting .242/.333/.439 to start the 2014 season. This was his fifth round-tripper of the year.
In 2012 Encarnacion hit a career-best 42 home runs. He followed that up with 36 home runs in 2013. The guy can thump, and the Blue Jays are hoping that this 200th career home run will get things rolling for the veteran slugger moving forward.
