As he goes into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, Joe Torre will be honored by the organization whose cap he will be wearing going in.

Joel Sherman says that the club will retire Joe Torre’s number 6 in a special ceremony on August 23rd. They also announced that they will put up plaques in monument park for Tino Martinez, Goose Gossage and Paul O’Neill.

Sherman goes on to say that the multiple plaques being hung are part of a “Recognition Series” of dedications. Bernie Williams will be honored next season. The Yankees will have an “Old-Timers Day” weekend, and Martinez and Gossage will be honored on Saturday June 21st and Sunday June 22nd respectively. O’Neill’s ceremony is scheduled for August 9th.

When the Yankees inevitably retire Derek Jeter’s No. 2 jersey, there will be no more single digit pinstripes available for current player use.
