Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer injected some life into the team before an injury cut his season short. On Thursday night in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Browns drafted Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel with the No. 22 pick and almost immediately a quarterback controversy was born.
Hoyer is on record saying that he is approaching the season as if he is the starting quarterback.
“Until someone tells me otherwise,” Hoyer said, via Pat McManamon of ESPN.com, “I feel like I’m the starter for this team.”
And when the Browns leadership told him they were drafting Manziel, he welcomed the challenge according to Pro Football Talk.
The Browns texted Hoyer to give him a heads up about the forthcoming pick and Hoyer returned the message by telling the brass to “bring him on.”
Sounds like two fiercely competitive guys fighting for that starting spot, and it could make for an interesting and compelling situation.
