Georgia Football: Shaq Wiggins transferring from Bulldogs

According to a report from Seth Emerson at the Macon Telegraph, sophomore cornerback Shaq Wiggins will be transferring out of Athens after starting last season as a freshman.

As a freshman, Wiggins did hit the field immediately, starting eight games, and he was one of the more productive players on the Georgia defense, finishing up with 19 total tackles and a team-leading two interceptions, which as Emerson also pointed out means that playing time –which is generally a reason for someone to transfer outside of any troubles –is not a factor in this decision.

Shortly following the announcement, Georgia head coach Mark Richt released a brief statement.

“Shaq and I have been talking over the last few days and a fresh start is what he believes is in his best interest. We respect his decision and certainly wish him nothing but the best.”

As more details become available out of Athens as to why Wiggins and Richt had the talk to begin with, we will keep you updated.
