The NFL Draft saw plenty of big names shoot up draft boards and one of those names was now New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham out of LSU. The speedster rose quickly in the 11th hour before the draft and ended up be going No. 12 overall, something that the San Francisco 49ers tried to stop from happening.

It’s not that the Niners tried to stop Beckham from being draft, they just tried to make it them who landed him and not the Giants. However, despite rumors that they’d trade up and apparent attempts to do that very thing, the Niners ultimately didn’t trade and stayed at No. 30 overall.

Per CSNBayArea, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said of Beckham notes that a trade not happening didn’t come about because of a lack of effort:

"“The price of doing business when you’re trying to move from 30 up to the top 10 or close to the top 10 becomes pretty stiff. And you’re giving up a lot of football players to go get one football player. And if you look at history, a lot of times that works against you.”"

The Niners ended up drafting Jimmie Ward from Norther Illinois with the No. 30 overall pick, but Day 2 begins with Marqise Lee still on the board which means we could see that trade that didn’t happen in the first round come about tonight.
