The Detroit Lions traded up to the 40th overall pick in a deal with the Seattle Seahawks. The Lions used this pick to take Brigham Young Cougars linebacker Kyle Van Noy.

Before the draft Van Noy wrote that he was going to treat it like a normal day and was blocking out all the pre-draft talk. Now he doesn’t have to anymore.

“I try to ignore all of the mock drafts and everything, because they’re not paying the bills,” Van Noy wrote for USA Today. “Those people are not picking me, and they’re not people that are making the decisions of the teams. It’s cool to be talked about and all that, but at the end of the day, that stuff doesn’t really matter to me. Other kids enjoy that, and I don’t know why. They like the attention I guess.

“I just have never understood that. I guess maybe it’s because I’m from Reno. We don’t really have that scene, like an L.A. scene. That’s never really attracted me that much. You don’t necessarily see the good from it — you only see the bad.”
