On Thursday before the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft there were reports that the New England Patriots were close to trading back up quarterback Ryan Mallett to the Houston Texans. Nothing came of that on Thursday before or during the first round of the Draft.

Now there is a report from ESPN’s Ed Werder, and he said on SportsCenter on Friday that he was told Mallett is “not available” for trade. The buzz for this died down when the first round came and went, but there were reports that the Patriots might pursue Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Mike Glennon to replace Mallett. Obviously with the Draft coming and going and the Bucs not drafting a quarterback it seems like this three team shuffle was over anyways.
