This isn’t a surprising move, but more of a formality, as the school took finals steps to separate from the players who were involved in a police investigation of an alleged sexual assault. [Source: Sporting News]
University president Michael Gottfredson stated that the decision was reached jointly by himself along with athletic director Rob Mullens and coach Dana Altman.
Dotson, who was the focus of the investigation, and Artis both played in the NCAA Tournament with the Ducks, which drew heavy fire from critics. The incident was reported the day the Ducks final regular season game was played, although Gottfredson said he was aware of the investigation before the players participated in the tourney, and that the University was asked not to suspend or bench the players or do anything that would make them aware an investigation was ongoing.
Prior to today’s dismissal of the trio, there had been reports that all three players intended to transfer from Oregon.
