San Jose Sharks fans, despite a short lived playoff season, were able to raise close to $10,000 in the beard-a-thon fundraising event. This long standing tradition for hockey fans had over 160 individuals attempting to raise money for the cause.
Anyone interested in joining the fun could create a personalized web page to document beard growth and attempt to raise money. Players and fans alike joined forces in raising $9,807.
This year, all proceeds are being donated to Breast Cancer Angels and the local chapter of the American Cancer Society located in Campbell. Cancer has touched the San Jose Sharks fans in a unique way throughout this season, as Sharks forward Matt Nieto has been very open with helping his mother, Mary Nieto, battle cancer. Everything is being donated on Mary’s behalf, with both organizations helping her throughout her battle.
