When the No. 16 overall pick came up for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was still available, everyone waited to see what owner and general manager Jerry Jones would do. The Cowboys instead drafted offensive lineman Zack Martin, which led some Cowboys fans to rejoice and others to groan out loud.

Jones reiterated his commitment to starter Tony Romo and said that they didn’t consider Manziel because they didn’t need a quarterback.

“As you well know in here, Romo is by contract as well as by commitment is certainly the quarterback for the Cowboys for several years to come. There is no moving around that,” Jones said, via Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News. “I don’t care who you draft, that’s the way it would have been. That was going through our minds from the get-go. That’s why we didn’t spend a lot of time at all in this draft considering Manziel.”

He did call Manziel a celebrity, and you know Jones likes Cowboys to be stars as the face of America’s Team. He said Manziel is Elvis Presley while comparing Tony Romo to the tamer George Strait.
