The Atlanta Falcons were rumored to be interested in Chris Johnson when the Tennessee Titans were shopping him and then again once he was released but they stood fast in their position of wanting to find a future runner in the draft.

On Saturday, that’s exactly what they did as the Falcons drafted Florida State Seminoles speedster Devonta Freeman with the 103rd pick overall and the third pick in the fourth round.

With Freeman coming to Atlanta, the ability to run Darren Sproles style screens become a reality for Matt Ryan and his offense. Freeman seems similar to Jaquizz Rodgers, but he will being fresher legs and a little bit more speed as well.

There’s also the footnote that partial team owner Warrick Dunn, a former Florida State running back star, can pass the mantle to Freeman in a way and even mentor the former Seminole on what it’s like to move from Florida State to the NFL. Either way, the Falcons grabbed a great pick and have started off the final day of the draft very well.
