Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wanted to take a new direction in the 2014 NFL Draft, and so he brought his new “draft czar” Will McClay on board to guide the Cowboys through the murky waters of evaluating the talent and making the calls.

It would appear Jones is happy with the job McClay did in his first year, giving him high marks on the Cowboys’ draft, according to the star-telegram.com.

"“I give him an A. I really do _ in every phase of it, preparation, the organizing of it. From organizing the initial days, from the Senior Bowl all the way to the combine, the organization of the board, coordination with the coaches – I’m going over all that because I’ll break it down – and I couldn’t give him anything but an A in every respect. We all know how smart he is, but he’s got a unique perspective. He’s been around this game long enough. It really came to bear in that room. He made a significant, really a significant contribution to this being a success.”"

This was McClay’s first time directing a draft for the team after replacing Tom Ciskowski last summer, after joining the Cowboys organization as coach of the now defunct Dallas Desperados of the Arena Football League.

The Cowboys drafted nine total players in the seven rounds, highlighted by first round pick, Zack Martin, an offensive tackle out of Notre Dame. The team also addressed some of their needs on defense, as well as picking up a speedy wide receiver.

What are your thoughts on the Cowboys’ first draft with McClay in charge?
