Manchester City looked like they had let the Premier League title slip away when they lost to Liverpool at Anfield roughly a month ago. Fortunately for Man City, Liverpool stumbled after that game losing to Chelsea and then drawing against Crystal Palace. That allowed Manchester City to stay in the driver’s seat heading into Championship Sunday.

Things went City’s way in both games early on during Sunday’s line up of games. In the 20th minute of Liverpool’s game, defender Martin Skrtel tried to block a cross and kick it out of bounds but instead redirected it on goal for an own goal giving Newcastle United a 1-0 lead over Liverpool heading into the half.

In the 39th minute of Manchester City’s game against West Ham United, Samir Nasri scored a remarkable goal to give his team a 1-0 lead heading into the half. It was a beautiful low curling shot from about 25 yards out that snaked through the defense and went in the bottom left hand corner, hitting the post before bouncing into the back of the net.

Liverpool still had a shot at the title if they could make a come back and West Ham United could some how overcome their 1-0 deficit and win the game. Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany squashed those hopes early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute.

The goal came on a corner kick, the ball got through to the middle of the box and to the ground. The ball rolled forward to Kompany who was about five or six yards out from the goal, he put his foot on it and put the ball in the back of the net for an easy goal.

Meanwhile back at Anfield Liverpool was making a run at it. A free kick from captain Steven Gerrard curled in towards the back post and defender Daniel Agger made an aerobatic move to get a boot on the ball and redirect it on goal, leveling things 1-1.

Just moments later, Gerrard took another free kick from nearly the same spot and put it in nearly the same place. This time it was striker Daniel Sturridge who got a foot on the ball and this goal gave Liverpool the lead. They’d still need West Ham United to come from behind to defeat Manchester City, which looked unlikely late in the game as they clung to a 2-0 lead.

Ultimately, Manchester City won the Premier League title with a 2-0 win over West Ham United. The fans stormed the pitch creating quite an interesting scene as players tried to get off the pitch and prepare for the trophy presentation.
