MLB Rumors: New York Yankees place CC Sabathia on DL

It hasn’t been a very good day for the New York Yankees starting pitching rotation.

Just hours after the team learned that Michael Pineda would need extra time on the disabled list, the team also had to place ‘ace’ CC Sabathia on the DL as well.

Sabathia complained of knee pain on Saturday prompting the Yankees to perform tests on the veteran arm.

The MRI came back clean of any structural issues however it did show fluid buildup which will likely force the pitcher to have his knee drained. Because of that, the team opted to place him on the disabled list.

Sabathia complained of pain in his landing knee after the game. MRI revealed fluid on the knee, so he’s headed to DL.

Running out of options, the Yankees will have Alfredo Aceves start in place of Sabathia until he returns.

It’s not expected that Sabathia will need to be out long, so it’s likely he’ll be able to return once eligible to return towards the end of May.
