NHL Playoffs 2014: Derek Stepan gets tripped by official during breakaway (GIF)

The life of an NHL referee is perhaps the hardest of all the professional officials on earth as no other port presents a more apparent danger than hockey. while football referees get their fair share of scrapes from doing the job, hockey officials have to not only look out for pucks coming at them at speeds upwards of 100 mph, but they must fluidly move around the fast paced game going on in front of them.

Most of the time they get out of the way but other times they end up running into a player and spoiling a breakaway goal scoring chance.

The Rangers ended up picking up two quick goals after this failed one so the play goes form being a game changer to a goofy moment of the night.
