Rangers' Martin Perez will undergo MRI on left elbow

Left-handed starting pitcher Martin Perez will undergo an MRI on his left elbow according to Anthony Andro on Twitter.

The Texas Rangers front-office have to be holding their breath right now as they await the results from the MRI. Usually when a pitcher needs to have one of these done – things don’t end well. Perez will miss at least one start unless there’s something seriously wrong and he needs to undergo surgery. Perez was off to a great start as he pitched 26 scoreless innings last month.

Things have gone downhill since as opposing teams have been able to tag him for 19 runs over three starts. The Rangers will call up Nick Tepesch to fill in for Perez on Wednesday against the Houston Astros.

He currently holds a solid 1.58 ERA with their Triple-A Round Rock Express affiliate. There’s a good chance that he’ll end up making more than one start with the Rangers.
