Shawn Thornton sprays P.K. Subban with water bottle, gets fined (Video)

I don’t know what exactly the Bruins’ Shawn Thornton was thinking about Saturday night when he squirted the Habs’ P.K. Subban with a water bottle but…well, he did it, and now he’s getting fined by the NHL.

If you missed it, here’s video of the really ridiculous incident.

Great idea. Now Thornton will reportedly be fined $2,820.52 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Look, stuff goes on all the time during hockey games, worse stuff than guys squirting each other with water, but the NHL surely realizes that this is a special case.

Things are already testy after all the racist stuff that ensued when Subban and the Habs visited Boston, and actions like Thornton’s will only serve to stir that stuff up again. Which is the last thing the NHL needs.

Thornton has had his problems in the past and is obviously not the brightest bulb in the drawer. Guy really should know better than to be pulling stuff like that especially with a lightning rod player like Subban.

Plus it’s just a gutless move to begin with. If you have a problem with the guy, meet him in the parking lot for a fist fight like a man. Don’t squirt him with water like a little baby.

The fine isn’t the worst thing for Thornton, the worst thing that everyone now knows what a punk he is.
