Angels’ recall Luis Jimenez, add Ian Stewart to disabled list

Veteran third baseman Ian Stewart suffered a badly bruised hand yesterday during an at-bat against the Toronto Blue Jays. Now while his Halos look to take the four game sweep against the Blue Jays – Stewart will be placed on the disabled list.

According to Jeff Fletcher on Twitter, the Angels will recall infielder Luis Jimenez after playing Stewart on the disabled list. Stewart will be added to the 15-day disabled list and should be able to return as soon as he’s eligible.

This will be Jimenez’s second or third stint with the big league ball club this season – as he was optioned back to Triple-A Salt Lake last week. Jimenez went o-3 with two strikeouts with his brief stay with the Angels but will more than likely see some regular playing time now that both Stewart and David Freese are spending some time on the disabled list.
