When the Cleveland Browns selected Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the fan base was excited and hoping that Manziel would be able to find his way onto the playing field sooner rather than later to provide a spark to the franchise.
However, it looks like the fans will have to wait until they get to see Manziel rolling with the starting offense.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Manziel has been told by majority owner Jimmy Haslam that “Brian Hoyer is the starter.”
To drive home the point, Haslam says Manziel has been told “you’re the backup” and in hopes of avoiding a circus off the field the owner added, “this is not Hollywood.”
The Browns organization is very happy with what Brian Hoyer has shown in the past, so there is a good chance he will begin the season as the team’s starting quarterback. Manziel will have the opportunity to win the starting gig in camp, but he is going to have to prove it and will not be handed the job right out of the gate.
