The Dallas Mavericks gave the San Antonio Spurs a run for their money in the first round of the NBA Playoffs but came up short in Game 7. They also have six players hitting free agency and will have considerable cap space to work with this summer and they plan on being aggressive.
“We’ll be aggressive as always, whether it’s free agency or the draft, to put the best possible product on the floor next year,” Mavericks president of basketball operations and GM Donnie Nelson said, via the team’s website.
“The ultimate goal is to bring a championship here to Dallas as quickly as possible,” he added. “We also respect those that have put us in this position, and so those are the two things that we’ve got to blend. And we’ve got our work cut out, because we’ve got six free agents that have given us their heart and soul.”
The question is whether Dallas can bring any big name free agents to Dallas, something they’ve failed to do the past two off seasons after trying to woo Dwight Howard and Deron Williams. They might not be looking for that one big fish, but top players at positions of need.
