Baltimore Orioles fans got good news and bad news, practically in the same breath.
The team brought back Chris Davis yesterday from the disabled list after a short rehab stint. In order to make room for him on the DL, the team put catcher Matt Wieters on the disabled list with a strained right elbow. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the elbow has been bothering Wieters for some time now. The 27-year old has been limited to designated hitter duties recently, and had seen Dr. James Andrews to get a diagnosis on the situation.
Andrews reported good news in that Wieters would not need elbow surgery, according to CBS Sports, and Connolly says that the backstop is hopeful that 15 days is all he’ll need before he’s able to throw from behind the dish again. Steve Clevenger will assume primary catching duties for Baltimore in the meantime.
