The 2014 World Hockey Championships in Minsk, Belarus have not been kind to the NHL players competing overseas, and Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov is the latest player to suffer a significant injury.
According to NHL.com, Orlov suffered a broken arm while playing for Russia in Monday’s win over the United States squad.
“My arm is broken and I can’t turn it, so there is no point in suffering and trying to play. I’d only be a burden to my team,” Orlov said. “I have contacted the Washington Capitals and will be going to America, where I will see a doctor in Washington or New York.”
It is an unfortunate injury for Orlov, but he will have the full offseason to recover and get back to 100 percent so he can take his spot in the Capitals rotation for the start of the 2014-15 regular season.
