During the 2014 NFL Draft, there was some discussion that the New England Patriots and Houston Texans could be closing in on a trade for back up quarterback Ryan Mallett. Despite drafting Tom Savage, there were still some reports saying trade talks were ongoing early this week.

However, it could now be time to put an end to that speculation.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans “will not be trading for Ryan Mallett.”

The belief is the Texans will roll with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick behind an improved offensive line until Savage is ready to contribute.

Of course, with the relationship that Mallett already has with new Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, there could still be an outside chance that the Texans pull a trade for Mallett down the line if they are not satisfied with the progress that Fitzpatrick or Savage make.
