The presence of Nene and Marcin Gortat down low was supposed to be a distinct advantage for the Washington Wizards in their second round series against the Indiana Pacers. Given the struggles of the Pacers against the Atlanta Hawks and particularly the inconsistent play of center Roy Hibbert, that was supposed to be the advantage as a number of people picked the Wizards to advance.
With the Pacers out to a 3-1 series lead and trying to put the inexperienced Wizards away on Tuesday night, it is safe to say that things have not exactly played out that way. In a play that perhaps symbolized that fact, Indiana center Ian Mahinmi put this dunk away in Nene’s face in the first half.
Being down on the Pacers has been one of the hottest takes to have during these NBA Playoffs. I wonder how much that will change if they end up in the Conference Finals after all, waiting for a showdown with the Miami Heat.
