It just so happens that the author of this entry once resided in Fort Collins, CO. To live in that community is to appreciate how ridiculously valuable bikes can be and what a nasty crime it can be to steal bikes. Those things mean something to people, and boy oh boy can they cost a lot of money.

That little bit of personal context brings us to Nebraska linebacker Josh Banderas, who has gotten himself into big trouble for stealing mountain bikes. According to the Lincoln Journal Star:

Assistant UNL Police Chief Charlotte Evans said a witness called 911 just before 5 p.m. after seeing two people clipping bike locks with a bolt cutter and taking them to a truck.

The truck left, and UNL and Lincoln police officers responded to a larceny-in-progress call.

Near Antelope Valley Parkway and M Street, a Lincoln police officer pulled over the silver Chevrolet 1500 truck Keifer was driving, Evans said.

They seized the mountain bikes, valued at $1,699, and a bolt cutter from the truck’s bed.

Both were taken to jail on suspicion of possession of burglar’s tools and theft by unlawful taking between $500 and $1,500.”

Bonehead. The word you are looking for is bonehead. Banderas will have plenty of problems as he deals with these felony theft charges, as he should.
