Philadelphia Phillies recall Cesar Hernandez

A day after designating backup infielder Jayson Nix, which came a day after Freddy Galvis broke his collarbone in a minor-league game, the Phillies restored their bench.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that Philadelphia has recalled infielder Cesar Hernandez from Double-A to take over the utility infielder job. Hernandez is a second baseman by trade, but it appears that Chase Utley has found his health and is raking over the first month and a half of the season. Hernandez has also been seeing time at shortstop and third base.

The 23-year old has played in a grand total of 40 games for the big league club over the course of last year and this year. He has an offensive slash of .284/.338/.328 during that time, but will mostly be relied upon for his defense.
