Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has an issue with staying healthy. Nogueira, who has not fought since defeating Rashad Evans back at UFC 156 in February of 2013, has pulled out of two fights in a row with nagging injuries.
With his return to the Octagon finally set, Nogueira recently admitted in an interview with MMA Fighting that he is still not at 100 percent:
I’m not 100 percent physically yet, but I’m getting there. I had two injuries. I had to undergo a knee surgery and had another back injury that forced me out of training for more than a year. But I will be at my best in two and a half months.
It will be interesting to see if Nogueira will be rusty inside the Octagon after such a long layoff. If he is not close to 100 percent on fight night, he could be making a big mistake in taking this fight. In reality, however, no fighter is ever completely 100 percent going into a fight because of the harsh training they endure leading up to the bout.
Nogueira is set to take on No. 5 ranked Light Heavyweight Anthony Johnson on July 26th at UFC on FOX 12.
