The Big Ten had an exceptional 2014 NFL Draft, sending 30 players to the league, up ten from their total of 20 in 2013.

In 2013 there where five other conferences — SEC, ACC, Pac-12, Big 12, and Big East — sitting in front of the Big Ten in terms of total players drafted. This year, only the SEC, ACC and Pac-12 had more players drafted.

Here is the complete conference-by-conference totals breakdown.

SEC — 49
ACC — 42
Pac-12 — 34
Big Ten — 30
Big 12 — 17
Mountain West –16
American — 12
Conference USA — 9
Independents — 9
MAC — 8
Sun Belt — 4

Within those 30 players selected from the Big Ten, there are some outstanding football players who will more than likely make their marks very early with their respective NFL teams. While the draft is never a sure thing, there are some kids who you just know are going to make it.

This will be a look at the top 10 players selected from the conference, but rather than using the tired old formulaic equations and ratings given by various media outlet, this will be done a little differently.

I’m going to look at a players abilities as they fit in with the team who drafted them, what players they will have to compete with in training camp (the more difficult the better), and where they were taken in the draft.

Perhaps we’ll uncover some hidden gems that nobody would have guessed as a Top 10 pick from the conference.
